I started corneal reshaping lenses about three years ago. I had worn glasses for a really long time, with a very high prescription. Glasses were annoying to wear and being a swimmer, very inconvenient.
Soft contacts left me with dry eyes and gave me more problems than they were worth while swimming. I swam competitively 3 hours a day, sometimes more and I needed to wear prescription goggles. Poor vision while swimming left me with inconsistent turns, and therefore making me slower.
I had my doubts about corneal reshaping. My prescription was very high and my schedule with swimming and school made it difficult to fit me with lenses. The first few days were very hard. Due to the time needed to transition to the lenses, these few days left me unable to see well while unable to use glasses. But on the third and fourth mornings, I woke up astounded to my vision without soft contacts or glasses.
Swimming without the need for contacts or prescription goggles was awesome. I could use the best goggles, without having to worry about being able to see. I could gauge the distance to wall perfectly on every turn, therefore leading to an improvement to my overall times. My high school swims team, of which I was a 4 year varsity member and co-captain my senior year, ended up among the top teams in the state.
I sit writing this in my dorm room as a sophomore in college, not needing glasses or soft contacts while having perfect vision. The road to this point was long and strenuous, but was well worth it. I am thankful for the doctors for seeing me through. I am very thankful for my parents, especially my mom, who had to take care of transporting me and my sister to the office, and paying for these amazing lenses. Without both of their perseverance, I could never be at this point. I now have clear vision without the hassle of glasses or soft contacts with no sign of irritation or dryness.
